I had some plush, toys and dolls as a kid. Troll, Barbie, Cabbage Patch, My Child, off brands, baby dolls, etc. As an adult I recollected a few old favorites that were lost over the years (Mattel Rugrats Collectable dolls, a few Mattel Barbie dolls, and Tenchi Myuo 12′ action figures), some dolls/toys I didn’t recollect.

I ended up getting a lot of new ones, like Moxie Teens in 2010, but I sold them all in 2014. Tristen was my favorite. My first resin ball jointed doll was a secondhand 2011, new to me, 1/4th Angel of Dream I received in 2012. My first Azone Kikipop was Marmalade Brown in October 2019. Originally I was buying Kikipop dolls, keeping their wigs, clothing, shoes and reselling the bald nude doll in box (for half the cost I originally paid for the full doll/set) to help fund getting the next one. Eventually I started keeping the Kikipop dolls, and made custom characters with them. Between 2019 and 2023 I have collected all of the Kikipop doll boxes, outfits, wigs, shoes and accessories from each set. My first Kinoko Juice Kiki (White/Ivory Skin with custom Mushroom Faceup by Xhanthi, sold to me by PuffyPuffers, secondhand, new to me December 2019). My second Kinoko Juice Kiki (2018 normal skin from Dolk, secondhand, new to me December 2019) I named Amaimono . Collections have snowballed from there.

Between 2019 and 2023 I obtained at least one of every single vintage Mattel Viacom Rugrats Collectable doll. (mostly out of box collection, but a couple in box.) I recollected all the ones from my childhood, and several I didn’t know existed. Some were not released in the USA, but I made international friends with someone who is a bigger Rugrats collector than me, and we’ve been mailing dolls to complete each others collections! (Like pen pals, but with dolls!) I recollected the Rugrats dolls because I vividly remember receiving them as gifts from someone who has passed, and the joy I had playing playing with them as a kid. I ended up with an extra set that I gave to my kids. We enjoyed watching the series and movies together, (even the reboot that came out May 21st, 2021) and they enjoyed playing with their set. Phil and Lil are still my favorites.

How did I get into Ball Jointed Dolls?

I researched as much about resin ball jointed dolls as I could, (Volks began about 1999, and Dollzone about 2005). I was originally interested in, and wanted, three 1/3 Dollzone dolls: 70cm Yuu – in tan skin,
60cm Cherry – in pink skin, and 70cm Ying- in white skin (sometime before 2007). They have been retired, hard to find, and I have not obtained them. (I might not never have them) I found pictures of them (WARNING: Ball Jointed Doll Anatomically Correct Nudity) here. My original plan was to have these three, possibly a total of four dolls, and have them be whatever characters and styles I wanted. Like a little customizable group of cosplayers. What actually happened? I ended up with more than four, all smaller than originally planned, uniformed them into permanent characters, and got more dolls for more characters or outfits.

What was your first ball jointed doll?

Melfina is an Angel of Dream (AOD) Female 1/4 Meng Ya Qi (Customized opened eyed head). She is named after and based off of the character Melfina from the anime “Outlaw Star“.

Alice Collections is now the only legitimate seller for Angel of Dream ball jointed dolls, that I know of. I joined the international doll community Den of Angels as The_Modern_Maiden.

That’s a little introduction of what this blog is about, my doll hobby, what they are, and why I like them.

Feel free to look around. My reddit and instagram have more photos and videos. I don’t have as much on Twitter as the others. If you’re looking into getting into the doll hobby, or just admiring, I hope to be a little inspiring!
